African Culture and People
If you think of Africa, the first thing that comes to your mind is population, the land area of the continent, beliefs, species of animals and plants and the most important thing is history. Hippos, Lions, Black Mamba are one of the rare species of animals found in this country but it is considered as extinct if there are no tribes, cultures or humans that maintain the balance of living things in Africa. Africa is the 2nd largest continent around the world. It has a 1 billion population with different tribes and different groups of people with numerous types of cultures. Here are some tribes, groups of people and cultures.
- Afar- The people of Ethiopia are considered before and now as Afar. The Afar people can be also found in some part of Africa like Djibouti, Somalia and Eritrea in the Horn of Africa.
- Anlo-Ewe- The southern corner of Ghana is full of Anlo-Ewe people. They live there during the era of 1474 to leave from their late home which is Notsie.
- Amhara- the Amhara people are culturally and politically an ethnic group and the dominant race in Ethiopia. They can be commonly found on the central Ethiopia’s highland plateau. They are also seen in Gojjam and Begemder and in some parts of Wallo and Shoa.
- Ashanti- the Ashanti people live in the central Ghana of western Africa. They live far from the shore in about 300km. These people are the major ethnic type of group in Ghana, specifically in Akans. It is a fairly a nation with more than fifty years of age.
- BoBo- The bobo people lived in the western Mali and Burkina Faso for many centuries. They are known by their own costumes such as elaborated outfits and mask for celebrations. They are also producing cotton and they trade it with other products.
- Zulu- the Zulu people are considered as the largest group of ethnic in South Africa. They are known by their product of baskets and beads with beautiful colors and unique styles.
- Yoruba- This people live in Benin and Southwest of Nigeria. They are very artistic. They produce numerous types of artistic forms such as weaving, pottery, metalwork, mask making and beadwork.
- Mandinka- the West Africa is full of Mandinka people which are also considered as an Ethnic group. They can be also found in Guinea Bissau, Gambia and Senegal but there are also some lived in Mali, Cote d’Ivoirie and Burkina Faso.
- Pygmies- There are numerous types of Pygmy people such as the Batwa, Bambuti, Bagyeli, and Bayaka that lives from a fraction of large area in western and central Africa
- Senufo- the Senufo people is considered as a group that lives in Mali and Nothern of Cote d’Ivoire. They are much known as good farmers. They are also divided into different and many types of groups that moves from south to Cote d’Ivoire and Mali in late 16th centuries.
Although there are numerous types of people, group and cultures that are not stated, you don’t need to worry since you can find it in African facts which can be found on internet websites, libraries and different resources of books.
