Assab

Assab is a coastal Eritrean town, one of the larger urban centers in the Country. The town is situated about 70 km from the Eritrea-Ethiopia border in the Southern Red Sea administrative region.

Assab is an important port city, one of the busiest in the country; with an estimated population of about 45,000 people. The city is home to an oil refinery run by the Shell Company. Petroleum products from here are sold in Eritrea and neighboring countries.

The City is the administrative capital of the Southern Red Sea region and is home to a number of hotels, restaurants, churches, mosques, pubs and beaches.
