Keren

Keren is one of the largest cities in Eritrea, with an estimated population of about 125,000 people. A key city, Keren is situated to the northwest of Asmara and is the administrative capital of the Anseba Region. Keren is the third largest city in the country after Asmara and Massawa.

The City is a major center for trade and commerce and an important center for the processing and sale of agricultural produce from surrounding regions. Keren is linked to Asmara by road and there are a number of buses that provide transport between the two cities.

Interesting places to visit in the city include; the local markets where you will find a variety of craft items and the Egyptian 19th Century Tigu Fortress. The city is also home to a number of decent hotels, restaurants and pubs.
